Backend Developer for Financial Systems

As a senior backend developer, you will play a key role in shaping the backend of a live, regulated financial platform built across the Middle East. You will join a lean team where the frontend is further along than the backend and the goal is to catch up.

This is a full-time contract role focused on core features, transactions, and secure APIs all powering a product built for real customers and regulatory scrutiny.

The client is looking for a candidate who can work independently and communicate clearly while being able to work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Building and extending backend services using TypeScript/Node.js
  • Writing transactional business logic for financial flows (e.g. onboarding, withdrawals)
  • Designing and maintaining PostgreSQL schemas, migrations, and queries
  • Integrating with third-party APIs securely (OAuth2, JWT)
  • Improving existing systems for performance, reliability, and audit requirements
  • Collaborating via GitHub and CI/CD workflows
Requirements
  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally in financial services
  • Strong TypeScript/Node.js skills, productive from day one
  • Hands-on with AWS Lambda and serverless patterns
  • PostgreSQL experience, schema design, performance tuning, real-world queries
  • Solid understanding of building secure, documented REST APIs
  • Able to work independently and communicate clearly
