Senior Data Platform Manager

We are seeking a seasoned data platform manager who has experience leading large-scale big data environments, with a focus on availability, security and reliability.

  • Growing into leadership roles after proving technical skills in individual contributor positions, yet still enjoying hands-on work when the situation calls for it.
  • Designing and building large data environments that cater to complex needs, including high scalability and efficiency.
  • Staying informed about emerging technologies and making strategic decisions that align with business objectives.
  • Identifying and developing talent, mentoring engineers, and challenging them to excel.
  • Collaborating across teams to deliver projects related to big data platforms and data pipelines, while ensuring SRE support for managed services.
  • Influencing and shaping the company's big data platform strategy and data products as we evolve towards next-generation architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading a team of experienced engineers to design, build and operate large-scale big data environments.
  • Maintaining a deep understanding of Hadoop-based technologies, such as Hive, Pig, Map Reduce, Spark-SQL, Spark-Streaming, Python & PySpark, Kafka, Flume, and Scala.
  • Overseeing the use of GCP Big Query, Bigtable, APM tools like Dynatrace, log aggregation tools like Splunk, workflow management tools like Apache Airflow, and incident life cycle management tools like ServiceNow, Jira, Confluence.
  • Ensuring high uptime and availability of mission-critical services through proactive performance analysis and troubleshooting of large-scale distributed systems.
  • Fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement by embracing emerging technologies and best practices.
  • Balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent communication and client engagement skills.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Information Systems, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in Hadoop-based technologies, with a minimum of 5 years in management roles.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and leadership skills.
  • Strong expertise in designing, building, and operating large-scale big data environments.
  • A proven track record of delivering results in high-pressure environments.
