System Administrator

A Linux and Unix system administrator is responsible for installing, upgrading, and maintaining UNIX/Linux systems on company servers and computers. This role requires technical expertise in operating systems, storage environments, file systems, and network protocols.

About the Role
  • Creating and managing file systems, including setting up and maintaining user accounts and access management systems. Ensuring data security and integrity through appropriate file permissions and access controls.
  • Implementing network and computer system policies to ensure security and performance. Analyzing system logs and identifying potential security threats.
  • Detecting and troubleshooting software and hardware issues in a timely manner. Resolving complex technical problems with minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Monitoring system performance, creating backup and recovery policies, and setting up and monitoring security policies. Implementing data backup and disaster recovery procedures to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Applying patches and upgrades as necessary. Staying up-to-date with the latest technology trends and best practices in system administration.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on work experience in AIX/HP-UX/UNIX/Linux system administration. Proven track record of successfully managing complex IT projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of UNIX and LINUX operating systems, storage environments, file systems, and network protocols. Strong understanding of networking principles, including routing, subnets, TCP, IP, VLANs, and UDP.
  • Familiarity with Windows, UNIX, LINUX, and LINUX shell scripting. Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • In-depth knowledge of backup software and procedures, as well as storage management and SAN. Strong understanding of data security and compliance regulations.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills. Ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop effective solutions.
