Lead Coding Specialist Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Lead Coding Specialist to join our organization. As a key member of our coding team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and quality of medical record documentation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, monitor, direct, and evaluate QA production on a daily basis to ensure schedules are met and deadlines are communicated effectively.
  • Communicate with Directors and Coding Operations to address any system issues or emergencies that may delay QA production.
  • Ensure QA staff communicate valid, workable schedules to clients each week, adhering to accurate, sensible, and on-time expectations.
  • Review medical record documentation for accuracy in code assignment using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions.
  • Sequence diagnoses and procedures according to coding guidelines and ensure MS-DRG/APC assignments are accurate.
  • Abstract and compile data from medical records for optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges.
  • Answer queries from quality staff and escalate to Directors as necessary.
  • Meet agreed sampling targets and accuracy standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
  • Document QA data on teams of coders and record findings in the QA system (GuideAudit) for client reporting, risk identification, training, and standardization development.
Requirements:
  • Familiarity with ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions.
  • Understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, and surgical techniques.
  • Experience in ED Coding and ability to apply coding guidelines effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly with different teams and adapt to changing priorities.
