Job Title:

Culinary Team Member

The Culinary Team Member is a vital member of our kitchen staff, responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality menu items to meet the expectations of our guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare all basic food items for the menu requested by their supervisor.
  • Utilize advanced knife handling skills to efficiently prepare ingredients.
  • Work effectively in any section of the kitchen, adapting to changing priorities and demands.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of culinary terms and techniques.
  • Accurately read, understand, follow, and prepare company recipes.
  • Exhibit proficiency in completing tasks efficiently and productively, prioritizing work to meet deadlines.
  • Foster a safe and clean working environment by adhering to Public Health standards and guidelines.
  • Ensure their assigned area is maintained in preparation for announced or unannounced inspections.
  • Report for duty at assigned times, adhere to supervisor instructions, and maintain personal appearance, uniform, and hygiene in accordance with company rules.

Financial Management:

  • This position is accountable for cost containment through effective use, handling, and maintenance of records, supplies, and equipment.

Motivational Aspects:

  • This role does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications and Education:

  • A minimum of 4 years' experience in an upscale hotel, resort, cruise ship, or convention banqueting service, with at least 2 years as a Culinary Team Member (shipboard experience preferred).
  • A culinary school degree is mandatory.
  • Excellent management skills in a multicultural and dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
  • Superior customer service, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of personalized services, including needs assessment techniques, quality service standards, alternative delivery systems, and guest satisfaction evaluation techniques.
  • Strong planning, coaching, organizing, staffing, controlling, and evaluating skills.
  • Intermediate computer software skills required.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles, such as numbering flow, debits/credits, adjusting entries, and corrections.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence and establish a good rapport with Senior Officers and the corporate office.

Internal Candidate Requirements:

In addition to the stated hiring requirements, internal candidates must fulfill the following:

  • Completion of at least one contract as Commis Cook with a performance rating of satisfactory or above, along with demonstrated leadership skills.
