Database Management Role

You will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and administration of DMSII databases.

This includes managing database performance, space utilization, and availability on Unisys mainframes. It also involves setting up sets, subsets, and indexes to ensure efficient data access.

In addition, you will handle database backups, journals, and roll-forward recovery procedures.

Supporting schema changes and performing database reorganizations as required is another aspect of this role.

You will work closely with application and system teams to troubleshoot performance or access issues, participate in disaster recovery testing, and ensure compliance with backup policies.

The implementation and maintenance of security, audit trails, and user access controls is also a key part of your responsibilities.

Documentation of DBA processes, configuration, and recovery procedures is essential in ensuring continuity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and administer DMSII databases.
  • Monitor database performance, space utilization, and availability.
  • Set up sets, subsets, and indexes for efficient data access.
  • Handle database backups, journals, and roll-forward recovery procedures.
  • Support schema changes and perform database reorganizations as needed.
  • Work with application and system teams to troubleshoot issues.
  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and ensure backup policy compliance.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong hands-on experience with Unisys DMSII database administration.
  • Knowledge of DMUTILITY, DMSUPPORT, and database reorganization tools.
  • Understanding of journaling, quiet point backups, and roll-forward recovery.
  • Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting database issues.
  • Familiarity with COBOL, ALGOL, or other Unisys mainframe application integration.
  • Knowledge of batch jobs, JCL equivalents, and operational support tasks.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Nice to Have:
  • Exposure to modernization projects (migrating from DMSII to RDBMS/cloud).
  • Knowledge of SQL/relational databases for cross-skill flexibility.
