Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and scalability of our database infrastructure.

  • Database Infrastructure Management: Manage and optimize our database systems to ensure smooth operation.
  • Collaboration with Application Teams: Work closely with application teams to ship solutions that integrate seamlessly with our database systems.
  • Database Security and Backup: Develop and enforce best practices for database security, backup, and recovery.
  • Observability and Metrics: Monitor and analyze relevant database metrics to ensure we reach our database objectives.
  • Database Expertise: Provide expert guidance to engineering teams through reviews of database migrations, queries, and performance optimizations.
  • Automation and Tooling: Work with peers to roll out changes to our production environment and help mitigate database-related production incidents.

Requirements

  • Experience: At least 4-8 years of experience running MySQL/PostgreSQL databases in large environments.
  • Awareness of Cloud Infrastructure: Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, such as AWS/GCP.
  • Database Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the internals of MySQL/PostgreSQL.
  • Load Balancing Solutions: Knowledge of load balancing solutions like ProxySQL to distribute database traffic efficiently across multiple servers.
  • Monitoring Tools: Familiarity with tools and methods for monitoring database performance.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Caching: Knowledge of caching mechanisms, such as Redis/Elasticache.
  • Scripting Languages: Familiarity with scripting languages, such as Python.
  • Infrastructure Automation: Knowledge of infrastructure automation tools, such as Terraform/Ansible.
  • DevOps Practices: Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
