Key role in a hospital environment is that of the Pharmacy Purchase Manager, who plays a vital part in the procurement and inventory management process.

Responsibilities
  • Procurement & Vendor Management:
    • Identify vendors for pharmaceutical products and consumables.
    • Negotiate pricing and credit terms with suppliers.
    • Build long-term relationships with suppliers.
    • Ensure uninterrupted supply of drugs.
  • Inventory & Supply Chain Management:
    • Oversee purchase planning based on consumption trends.
    • Monitor stock levels to prevent shortages or overstocking.
    • Implement efficient inventory tracking systems.
    • Coordinate with pharmacy teams to ensure smooth supply chain flow.
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure all procurement follows drug regulatory guidelines.
    • Maintain accurate purchase records and audit compliance reports.
    • Monitor expiry dates and drug quality issues.
  • Financial & Operational Management:
    • Prepare and manage purchase budgets.
    • Monitor and control purchase costs.
    • Provide regular MIS reports on purchase trends and vendor performance.
  • Team & Coordination:
    • Lead and supervise the pharmacy purchase team.
    • Collaborate with clinicians and pharmacists for requirement planning.
    • Conduct regular review meetings with stakeholders.

Required skills and qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or related field.
  • 8–12 years of experience in pharmaceutical purchase, with at least 7+ years in a hospital setting.
  • Strong knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations, regulatory norms, and supply chain best practices.

The ideal candidate will have excellent negotiation and vendor management skills, strong analytical and planning ability, knowledge of drug regulations, leadership skills with ability to manage a team effectively, and proficiency in ERP / hospital management software for purchase and inventory.
