Payment Posting Specialist Job Description

The Payment Posting Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial data by accurately posting payments and adjustments to patient accounts based on Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), electronic remittance advice (ERA), and other payment documentation.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Audit and post insurance payments, ERAs, and patient payments into the dental billing software with precision and speed.
  • Reconcile deposits with bank statements and daily payment reports to ensure all payments are accounted for and accurate.
  • Review EOBs and ERAs to identify underpayments, overpayments, and denials, taking proactive steps to resolve discrepancies.
  • Flag and escalate trends or discrepancies in denials or payment issues to the appropriate department for timely resolution.
  • Post adjustments (e.g., write-offs, contractual adjustments) according to payer contracts and internal policies, maintaining the accuracy of patient accounts and balances.
  • Collaborate with the appeals or collections team for efficient resolution of denied or unpaid claims.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality at all times, adhering to industry standards and best practices.
  • Meet productivity and accuracy goals, consistently delivering high-quality results.
  • Collect and download EFTs and ERAs from insurance portals and clearinghouses with ease.

Key Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience in payment posting with a proven track record of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Familiarity with dental management software and ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Full English proficiency and Microsoft Office skills, with proficiency in G-suite.
