Construction Accounting Manager

This role involves overseeing and managing financial accounting functions within the company. Key requirements include a deep understanding of construction accounting principles, financial management, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction accounting or contractor accounting, along with knowledge of the percentage completion method of accounting.

The Construction Accounting Manager is responsible for all aspects of the accounting operations and cash management of the organization. This includes producing periodic financial reports, maintaining an adequate system of accounting records, and comprehensive controls and budgets. Results must comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

Main duties:

  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of financial transactions by overseeing day-to-day accounting activities such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the construction draw process to guarantee timely and accurate disbursement of funds for construction activities.
  • Manage the yearly audit and tax compliance process, including ensuring all information is complete, accurate, and available for tax preparers and auditors.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure control over actual expenses versus budget and participate in cash management position and forecasting.
  • Provide management with vital information to inform decision-making processes.
  • Oversee the use of Yardi, the organization's Property and Accounting software.
  • Must have knowledge of preparing project profitability reports and the percentage of completion method of accounting.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Continuously assess accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementation of new processes, policies, and procedures to ensure efficient operation and maximize technology use.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:
A CA/CPA with 7-8 years of experience in the real estate/construction industry.

Skills and Qualities:
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and quality of deliverables.
Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Must have excellent work ethic, high integrity, and excellent follow-up skills.
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills in decision-making processes.
Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
Superior ability to track and meet deadlines, focused on overcoming obstacles.
High level of computer skills, including extensive experience with Yardi, Procore, or similar real estate accounting systems.
Ability to take initiative and manage teams effectively.
