Job Title

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Database Specialist to join our team. This is a full-time position with opportunities for remote work from Austria or other locations.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in administering PostgreSQL databases at scale, as well as a strong background in Linux and shell scripting. They will also be proficient in Kubernetes and PostgreSQL Operators, with a proven track record of performance tuning and troubleshooting complex issues.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Own and resolve complex database incidents, providing expert-level support to clients and internal teams.
  • Design and implement efficient database solutions using PostgreSQL, including deployment in Kubernetes and automation through Terraform or Ansible.
  • Optimize database performance by profiling slow queries, balancing workloads, and architecting capacity planning.
  • Maintain high availability and data integrity by building and operating resilient clusters with Patroni, repmgr, streaming replication, synchronous replication, and DR strategies.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring and observability pipelines in Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager, and VictoriaMetrics, integrating with ELK/EFK stacks for logs and traces.
  • Ensure database security and compliance by implementing encryption at rest, TLS in transit, role-based access control, and audit logging.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers in best practices, schema design, indexing strategies, partitioning, and PL/pgSQL development patterns.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience administering PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
  • Deep expertise in Linux (RHEL/CentOS, Ubuntu) and shell scripting (Bash, Python).
  • Proven track record with Kubernetes and PostgreSQL Operators.
  • Mastery of performance tuning, query plans, WAL tuning, connection pooling, and database optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with Prometheus/Grafana monitoring stacks and database security measures.
  • Excellent problem-solving, written, and spoken communication skills.
