Freelance Data Modeler

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Data Modeler to design, govern, and implement conceptual, logical, and physical data models across modern cloud platforms.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with SQL Data Warehouses, Databricks Delta Lakehouse, and other MPP databases. They will also have domain knowledge across Customer, Sales, Finance, Supplier, and Manufacturing domains.

  • Data Design: Independently design and deliver conceptual, logical, and physical data models for cloud and on-premises platforms (SQL Data Warehouse, Databricks Delta Lakehouse, Spark, etc.).
  • Data Governance: Govern data design and modelling by documenting metadata, business definitions, and constructing database objects for enterprise and investment projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis: Develop a deep understanding of enterprise business domains (Customer, Sales, Finance, Supplier, Technology Inventory) to create scalable and reusable data solutions.
  • Collaboration: Lead collaborative reviews of data model design, security, and code to ensure alignment with data product development.
  • Expertise: Demonstrate expertise across multiple data paradigms: low-latency, relational, analytical, unstructured data lakes, and SAP data models.
  • Cloud-Centric: Develop reusable, cloud-centric data models and support data mapping and integration efforts.
  • Data Sourcing: Assist with data sourcing, profiling, planning, and transformation activities.

Requirements:

  • Data Modelling Tools: Strong proficiency with data modelling tools (ER/Studio, Erwin, IDM/ARDM).
  • MPP Database Technology: Hands-on expertise with at least one MPP database technology (Databricks Lakehouse, Redshift, Synapse, Teradata, Snowflake).
  • Version Control Systems: Experience with GitHub or other version control systems, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.
  • Metadata Management: Familiarity with metadata management, data lineage, and glossaries.
  • Agile Methodologies: Working knowledge of Agile, DevOps, and DataOps methodologies.
  • SAP Data Models: Understanding of SAP data models (HANA, S/4HANA, Retail, and third-party retail data like IRI, Nielsen).
