Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement business strategies aligned with overall hotel mission, vision, values and objectives.
  • Drive departmental goals achievement by developing and implementing effective strategies.
  • Regularly monitor status and adjust strategies and programs as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Direct the operation of the Engineering Department, overseeing routine maintenance and renovations, and coordinating work with hotel department managers.
  • Identify and select vendors as appropriate.
  • Create a safe environment for guests and employees by ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Serve as project manager for hotel renovations, coordinating project status with corporate technical services, architects, licensing agencies, contractors and hotel management.
  • Evaluate forecasted business and projects, scheduling staff accordingly to meet operational needs.
  • Ensure hotel adherence to regulatory and safety standards by meeting with government and insurance inspectors and taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date mechanical, electrical and structural blueprints.
  • Ensure staff is current on certifications and training necessary to maintain operating systems.
  • Prepare engineering budget and monitor actual versus budgeted expenses, taking corrective actions when necessary.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7-12 years of work experience in the hotel industry in Engineering.
  • Desirable: Minimum one-two years of supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Able to resolve conflicts between guests, supervisors, and employees.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with other hotel employees and managers to ensure teamwork.
  • Advanced knowledge of building management and engineering.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • General understanding of insurance requirements.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in a union environment.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and life safety operating systems.
