Senior Unified Communications Engineer

This role involves designing and implementing complex unified communications solutions to meet the needs of clients. As a key member of the engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the development of scalable and reliable UC systems.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of unified communications products such as CUCM, CUC, IM & Presence, and Expressways. They will have expertise in designing and troubleshooting clusters, inter-cluster trunks, and high availability configurations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • UC Architecture & Design: You will design and implement advanced UC architectures that meet the needs of clients. Your expertise in designing and troubleshooting clusters, inter-cluster trunks, and high availability configurations will be essential in delivering reliable and scalable UC solutions.
  • PSTN Trunking & Interoperability: You will design and troubleshoot SIP trunks, PRIs with carriers, including codec negotiation, SIP headers, PRIs, and call routing logic. Your ability to work with different technologies and vendors will be crucial in ensuring seamless communication between systems.
  • CUBE & Voice Gateway Configurations: You will configure advanced IOS gateways (MGCP, H.323, SIP), dial peers, DSP resources, and survivability strategies. Your knowledge of voice over IP (VoIP) technology and protocols will enable you to optimize network performance and quality.
  • Analog Devices: You will understand analog devices such as Analog Gateways, Analog Phones, Fax Devices, DTMF & Dial-tone behavior, FXS/FXO Ports. Your familiarity with analog technologies will help you troubleshoot and resolve issues related to legacy systems.
  • Call Flow Engineering: You will design end-to-end call flow across multiple platforms (CUCM, Unity, UCCX/UCCE, Expressway). Your attention to detail and ability to visualize complex call flows will ensure efficient and effective communication.
  • Virtualization & Cloud Migration: You will deploy IPT solutions on UCS platforms or migrate to cloud-based collaboration (Webex Calling, Cisco HCS). Your experience with virtualization technologies and cloud migration will enable you to deliver flexible and scalable UC solutions.

Strategic & Operational Skills:

  • Capacity Planning & Scalability: You will forecast growth, design scalable dial plans, and manage bandwidth across WAN links. Your ability to analyze data and make informed decisions will ensure that our clients' UC systems remain scalable and efficient.
  • Disaster Recovery & Redundancy: You will architect failover strategies, backup systems, and DR testing protocols. Your expertise in disaster recovery and redundancy will ensure that our clients' UC systems remain available even in the event of an outage.
  • Integration Expertise: You will connect IPT with third-party systems (CRM, ERP, SIP endpoints, SBCs). Your knowledge of integration technologies and protocols will enable you to create seamless interactions between systems.
  • Change Control & Governance: You will lead change advisory boards, document impact assessments, and enforce configuration standards. Your ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with cross-functional teams will ensure that changes are implemented smoothly and efficiently.
