Purchasing Manager Job Description

As a seasoned procurement expert, you will be responsible for managing the entire procurement lifecycle from initial requirement gathering to delivery of goods and services. Your primary goal is to secure high-quality products at optimal prices while ensuring timely delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Reviewing and approving supplier contracts, terms, and deadlines;
  2. Evaluating bids and making informed recommendations based on technical and commercial factors;
  3. Coordinating with vendors to expedite items according to engineering department needs;
  4. Developing and implementing procurement strategies to meet company objectives;
  5. Managing inventory levels and developing cost estimates;
  6. Supervising staff and allocating tasks efficiently;
  7. Collecting and analyzing data to inform purchasing decisions;

Maintaining accurate records, including supplier databases, purchase orders, and related documentation, is also essential. Additionally, you will ensure that all procured items meet required quality standards and specifications. Regular reporting to the project team and management on procurement timeframes and spends is necessary. You will work closely with stakeholders to improve inventory and purchasing systems and processes.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum BTech in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering;
  • Additional certification/degree related to Purchasing, Material Management, or Supply Chain Management desirable;
  • At least 15 years of experience in Engineering Procurement;
  • Experience in the Chemical Industry is highly desirable;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP-MM module;
  • Deep knowledge of inventory and supply chain management;
  • Strong critical thinking, negotiation, planning, and organizational skills;
  • Able to travel and work overtime as required.
