Component Engineer Role

We are seeking a skilled Component Engineer to oversee the lifecycle, quality, and compliance of electronic and electromechanical components in smart meter hardware.

The ideal candidate will manage component availability, optimize costs, and adhere to industry standards while mitigating supply chain risks. Strong knowledge of component qualification processes and collaboration with cross-functional teams are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, BIS, and relevant smart metering standards.
  • Validate alternate components to reduce supply risk and optimize cost.
  • Develop automated test setups for various hardware devices.
  • Stay updated on emerging component technologies and recommend adoption where feasible.
  • Maintain a robust component database with lifecycle status (Active, NRND, EOL).
  • Monitor obsolescence trends and initiate proactive redesign or sourcing strategies.
  • Work with design teams to ensure smooth migration during component phase-outs.
  • Collaborate with procurement to qualify vendors and negotiate component terms.
  • Audit suppliers for quality, compliance, and reliability standards.
  • Drive long-term supplier relationships to ensure business continuity.
  • Optimize Bill of Materials (BOM) cost without compromising product quality and compliance.
  • Assess and mitigate risks related to shortages, geopolitical issues, and logistic challenges.
  • Support multi-sourcing strategies for critical components.
  • Maintain RoHS, REACH, and environmental compliance documentation.
  • Support internal and external audits with complete and accurate records.
  • Ensure cybersecurity and data integrity guidelines for component traceability.
  • Work closely with hardware design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of components.
  • Provide technical support during New Product Introduction.
Requirements:
  • More than 3 years of experience in comprehensive testing of components (electronic, electrical, mechanical, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of smart meter standards (IEC, IS, DLMS/COSEM) and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in electronic supply chain, vendor qualification, and lifecycle management.
  • Hands-on experience with PLM tools, ERP systems, and component databases.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

Experience Range: 5-10 years maximum.
