Job Title: Head IP

As a seasoned professional, you will be responsible for spearheading intellectual property initiatives and ensuring that our products are protected across major global jurisdictions.

Educational Qualifications:

  • A Graduate or Postgraduate degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electronics, Automotive, Material Science) is required.

Additional Qualification: A WON, WIPO DL101, DFSS, Qualified Patent Agent Exam qualification will be an advantage.

Experience: 18+ years of experience in a similar role is required.

Purpose of the role:

  1. Conduct comprehensive reviews of NPD designs to identify potential areas for IP legal risk and plan IP checks to mitigate and strengthen the culture of technology/NPD through IP.
  2. Develop and execute search strategies to analyze Freedom to Operate (FTO), State-of-Art (SOA), invalidation, opposition, litigation, and other relevant searches.
  3. Perform advanced technology and analysis including competitive intelligence analysis, design IP protection of transportation design and engineering across business clusters.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Drive IP culture by reviewing designs for IP risks and initiating actions to de-risk designs/products.
  2. Perform patent/competitor portfolio analysis for patent literature as well as non-patent literature and leverage tools like IT and data analytics for effective search and analysis of IP.
  3. Work closely with IP attorneys, legal associates, and close IP FTO opinion reports in a timely manner.
  4. Plan and conduct BOM FTO reviews for NPD at the product level across automotive technology domains.
  5. Implement best-in-class practices, standardize processes, and enhance productivity through digitalization.
  6. Sign-off IP test plans with design teams and release periodic IP alerts to review and dispose concerns from stakeholders.
  7. Effectively build conviction with stakeholders and manage projects/business clusters independently.
  8. Plan, conduct FTO, state-of-art search analysis on LRP/advanced technology, and trigger timely protection for all forms of IP across major global jurisdictions.
  9. Be well-versed with industry best practices and state-of-art tools for IP searches and perform searches across multiple jurisdictions.
  10. Plan and carry out search for SOA, FTO, litigation, and invalidation/opposition search in liaison with legal associates.
  11. Review and resolve claim interpretation issues in FTO with stakeholders, liaise with legal teams for effective disposal, and maintain confidentiality of IP matters.
