Senior Sql Database Administrator Job Description

This is a senior-level role that involves managing and administering SQL databases.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, manage, monitor, and troubleshoot SQL 2005 – SQL 2022.
  • Implement Service Packs, Cumulative Updates, and Hotfixes (GDR, QFE) for optimal database performance.
  • Patch hierarchy and clarity on SQL Build numbers and Internal Database build numbers for seamless upgrades.
  • Upgrade/migrate SQL Server from older versions (SQL 2005) to newer versions (till SQL 2022).
  • Configure Linked Servers between same/different SQL Server versions for efficient data sharing.
  • Utilize contained databases for effective migrations and ensure data consistency.
  • Design backup strategies and configure recovery models for robust data protection.
  • Fine-tune backups using Backup Encryption, Compression, and special parameters (MAXTRANSFERSIZE, BUFFERCOUNT, BLOCKSIZE & CHECKSUM) for optimized performance.
  • Proficient in handling Master, Model, MSDB, TEMPDB, and Resource database corruptions for swift resolution.
  • Experienced in configuring HADR like Log Shipping, Mirroring, Clustering, Always-On AG, and Replication for high availability.
  • Detailed knowledge of Windows Cluster, Quorum, Dynamic Quorum, Voting Mechanism, Failovers through Cluster Administrator, and commands for efficient cluster management.
  • Advanced understanding of SQL Server Cluster scenarios, including Failover, adding Disk to existing instance with dependencies, and patching clustered instances (SQL 2005 till 2022).
  • Proven expertise in configuring Always-On AG on standalone instances across Windows Cluster in Synchronous mode and Asynchronous mode.
  • Skilled in handling advanced Always-On AG scenarios, including Failover, adding new data/log files, Lease Timeout, Health check timeout, Failure Condition Level parameters, Read-Only Routing, listeners, and backup configurations.
Mandatory Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server Architecture, parameters, T-SQL, Triggers, and Procedures for efficient database administration.
  • Administration and configuration of HA/DR solutions, including Clustering, Always-ON Group, and replication.
  • Configuration and management of all types of replications and troubleshooting for data consistency.
  • Patch management for timely updates and bug fixes.
  • Expertise in Always On AG scenarios, including Failover, server capacity monitoring, analysis, and tuning activities.
  • Automation using scripts and tools for backup, monitoring, resource utilization, HA alerts, capacity plan management, and SQL Server Tuning.
