Senior Loan Underwriting Specialist

The Senior Loan Underwriter is responsible for reviewing mortgage files, verifying income, analyzing debt and assets, and completing a thorough review of the appraisal report.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of mortgage loan files, ensuring accuracy and completeness in income verification, asset analysis, credit assessment, and collateral evaluation.
  • Utilize automated underwriting systems to streamline data entry and enhance processing efficiency.
  • Evaluate loan documents for compliance, accuracy, and completion, and identify potential red flags or alerts.
  • Issue loan decisions and condition files, and provide clear communication to clients and stakeholders.
  • Maintain current knowledge of investor requirements and industry guidelines.
  • Resolve pre- and post-closing issues related to underwriting.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2+ years experience in conventional mortgage loan underwriting.
  • Strong understanding of income calculations, tax returns, credit reports, and red flag identification.
  • Basic knowledge of appraisals and ability to recognize ineligible properties.
  • Thorough working knowledge of GSE underwriting guidelines and automated underwriting engines (DU/LP).
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management capabilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
  • Must be willing to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong capability to work in multiple systems, including paperless environments.
  • NMLS-MLO licensure preferred.
