Chemical Plant Manager Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Operations Oversight:
    • Direct all aspects of plant operations, including production, maintenance, quality control, and logistics.
    • Develop and execute production schedules to meet demand, optimize workflow, and ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Safety Leadership:
    • Establish and enforce strict safety protocols and procedures to create a secure working environment.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including those from OSHA and the EPA.
    • Lead safety audits, incident investigations, and implement corrective actions.
  • Team Direction:
    • Manage a diverse team of supervisors, engineers, and plant operators.
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to foster a high-performance culture.
    • Recruit, train, and develop staff to ensure the team has the skills needed to meet plant objectives.
  • Financial Acumen:
    • Develop and manage the plant's operational budget, controlling costs related to labor, raw materials, and maintenance.
    • Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement, reduce waste, and increase profitability.
  • Process Innovation:
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing performance.
    • Utilize methodologies like Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing to optimize processes, improve product quality, and reduce operational downtime.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is typically required. A master's degree, such as an MBA or M Tech in engineering management, is preferred.
  • Require 10 years of experience in the chemical, petrochemical, or refinery industries, with a significant portion of that time spent in a management or leadership capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge of chemical production processes, equipment, and technology.
  • Proficiency in process control systems, e.g., DCS PLC, and a strong understanding of safety management protocols, e.g., Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are crucial for managing a large team and collaborating with various stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational abilities are also vital for success in this role.
