Job Description:

The Associate, Quality Reading Material role is a critical component of our organization's efforts to promote literacy among children.

This position will be based at the Country Office in Delhi and will report directly to the National Program Coordinator, Quality Reading Material. The primary focus of this role involves working with local language children's literature and may require occasional travel.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including organizing workshops for writers and illustrators, editing and finalizing manuscripts, and coordinating with translators, writers, illustrators, designers, and other external and internal stakeholders to produce high-quality books.

In addition, the candidate will assist in defining criteria for engaging, relevant, and culturally appropriate reading material for primary school grades, and will contribute to gap analysis to determine the kind of reading materials available in the market or in schools.

The role also involves coordinating with the Operations team to ensure distribution of all reading materials to project areas where they will be used, as well as maintaining inventory management of materials.

Furthermore, the candidate will be responsible for completing regular reporting documents related to materials development procurement and communicating regularly with various teams to ensure smooth implementation of program activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and facilitate workshops for writers and illustrators to produce new children's books every year
  • Edit and finalize manuscripts
  • Coordinate with translators, writers, illustrators, designers, and other external and internal stakeholders to produce the books
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Room to Read's (RtR's) Literacy program design
  • Assist in defining criteria for engaging, relevant, and culturally appropriate reading material for primary school grades
  • Contribute to gap analysis for determining the kind of reading materials available in the market or in schools
  • Coordinate with Operations team to ensure distribution of all reading materials to project areas where they will be used
  • Maintain inventory management of materials
  • Complete regular reporting documents related to materials development procurement
  • Regularly communicate with Operations/Administration/Finance/HR teams at the CO and State levels
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in literature/language/education/social sciences or equivalent
  • Master's in literature/language/education/social sciences or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in developing good quality children educational/learning material like storybooks/textbooks etc.
  • In-depth understanding of the role of supplementary materials on reading skills and habits of children
  • Experience of developing teaching learning materials (TLM) and other instruction materials will be a plus
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
