Job Description

As a VP Site Reliability Engineering, you will shape the SRE function within our organization. You will work closely with senior leaders and engineers to set the direction for automation and operations engineering.

You will collaborate with a team of experienced SREs in platform engineering and operations teams to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for implementing reliable and efficient processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and Implement SRE Strategy: Define and drive the SRE strategy, working closely with senior leaders and engineers to ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Promote Automation Culture: Promote an 'Automate-first' culture in operating services through the reduction of toil and implementation of efficient processes.
  • Develop Methodologies and Strategies: Develop methodologies and strategies for identifying toil-heavy and inefficient processes, and automating and eliminating them.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Teams: Collaborate with all parties to develop and implement Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for critical services.
  • Design Monitoring Strategy: Design and implement monitoring capabilities to ensure service reliability and efficiency.
  • Reliability Improvements: Design and implement reliability improvements through capacity planning and chaos engineering exercises.
  • Architectural Reviews: Lead architectural reviews for reliability, ensuring that systems are designed with reliability and efficiency in mind.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Hands-on SRE practitioner with 5+ years of working experience in an SRE role.
  • Practical experience defining and implementing Service Level Objectives, and operating to Error Budgets.
  • Implemented and operated monitoring and observability technologies for wide-range enterprise-grade production systems.
  • Experience in corporate software development lifecycle methodology, some experience with gitops a plus.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of technical systems and their interactions.
  • Strong analytical skills and solid understanding of all critical Production Support processes.
  • 2+ years of experience with one/more public/private cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure etc.).
Preferred Skills:
  • Comprehensive understanding of SRE principles and ability to evangelise.
  • Working knowledge of modern observability tooling, including OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, and associated projects.
  • Experience of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and design.
  • Extensive knowledge of Configuration Management Solutions such as Ansible, Chef or Puppet.
