Chief Investment Officer

We are seeking an experienced investment leader to spearhead our investment engine. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for driving the investment funnel from sourcing to evaluation, diligence, execution, and portfolio support.

Role Overview

The CIO will collaborate closely with our founders to maintain a fast-paced, founder-friendly, and operationally sharp cadence. Your primary responsibilities include:

Sourcing & Thesis
  • BUILDING A QUALITY PIPELINE ACROSS SEED/EARLY AND LATER-STAGE DEALS
  • DEVELOPING AND REFRESHING THETICAL THESES IN FINTECH, SAAS, CONSUMER INTERNET, LOGISTICS, AI-ENABLED OPS, AND MORE
  • LEVERAGING YOUR NETWORK TO FIND NON-OBSERVABLE OPPORTUNITIES AND REPRESENTING OUR FIRM AT ECOSYSTEM EVENTS
Evaluation & IC Prep
  • RUNNING FAST SCREENS AND DEEP DIVES ON TEAM, MARKET, TRACTION, AND UNIT ECONOMICS
  • BUILDING AND AUDITING FINANCIAL MODELS, SCENARIO SIMULATIONS, AND EXIT PATHWAYS
  • DRAFTING CRISP INVESTMENT MEMOS WITH CLEAR THESES, RISKS, MITIGANTS, AND DECISION CHECKPOINTS
Diligence Leadership (LDD/FDD/Tech/Commercial)
  • DEFINING DILIGENCE SCOPE, SELECTING EXTERNAL PARTNERS, AND COORDINATING DATA-ROOM REQUESTS
  • SYNTHESIZING FINDINGS INTO GO/NO-GO RECOMMENDATIONS WITH PRACTICAL REMEDIES AND TERMS
Transaction Execution
  • SUPPORTING TERM SHEET DESIGN, VALUATION RATIONAL, RIGHTS, AND PROTECTIONS ALIGNED TO FOUNDER-FRIENDLY PRINCIPLES
  • COORDINATING WITH COUNSEL ON DEFINITIVE DOCS AND ENSURING CLEAN CLOSE CHECKLISTS AND POST-CLOSE OBLIGATIONS
Portfolio Support & Follow-ons
  • ONBOARDING COMPANIES INTO OUR ADVISOR NETWORK AND DRIVING TARGETED HELP
  • TRACKING PORTFOLIO HEALTH, PREPARING FOLLOW-ON CASES, AND MANAGING CO-INVESTOR COMMUNICATIONS
Finance, Reporting & Ops
  • PARTNERING WITH FINANCE ON ALLOCATIONS, WIRES, COMPLIANCE, AND RECORD-KEEPING
  • KEEPING PIPELINE CRM TIDY AND REPORTING ON FUNNEL METRICS AND CADENCE SLAS

Founder-Friendly Communication Standard

  • DEFAULTING TO EMPATHY AND RESPECT IN EVERY FOUNDER INTERACTION
  • RESPONDING QUICKLY WITH CLARITY AND EXPLAINING HOW DECISIONS ARE MADE
  • VALUING EVERY TOUCHPOINT WITH FOUNDERS, EVEN WHEN SAYING NO

What Success Looks Like

  • SOURCING 400-600 QUALITY OPPORTUNITIES PER YEAR AND MAINTAINING A LIVING MAP OF PRIORITY THEMES
  • CONVERTING 15-25% OF DEALS TO DEEP DIVE AND RECOMMENDING 12-15 INVESTMENTS PER YEAR
  • Achieving zero avoidable surprises post-close and maintaining a high portfolio NPS
