Job Title: Database System Administrator

As a skilled Database System Administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and administration of DMSII databases on Unisys mainframes. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a cutting-edge database system.

  • Database Installation: Perform installations, configurations, and administration tasks for DMSII databases.
  • Database Monitoring: Monitor database performance, space utilization, and availability to ensure optimal system functioning.
  • Data Management: Manage sets, subsets, and indexes to ensure efficient data access and retrieval.
  • Database Backup: Handle database backups, journals, and roll-forward recovery procedures to maintain data integrity.
  • Schema Changes: Assist in schema changes and perform database reorganizations as required.
  • Capacity Planning: Participate in capacity planning and ensure data integrity across environments.
  • Troubleshooting: Work closely with application and system teams to troubleshoot performance or access issues.
  • Disaster Recovery: Participate in disaster recovery testing and ensure compliance with backup policies.
  • Security: Implement and maintain security, audit trails, and user access controls.
  • Documentation: Document DBA processes, configuration, and recovery procedures.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • DMSII Database Administration Experience: Strong hands-on experience with Unisys DMSII database administration.
  • DBA Tools Knowledge: Knowledge of DMUTILITY, DMSUPPORT, and database reorganization tools.
  • Journaling and Recovery: Understanding of journaling, quiet point backups, and roll-forward recovery.
  • Performance Tuning: Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting database issues.
  • Mainframe Integration: Familiarity with COBOL, ALGOL, or other Unisys mainframe application integration.
  • Batch Jobs and Operational Support: Knowledge of batch jobs, JCL equivalents, and operational support tasks.
  • ODBC/JDBC Integration: Basic experience in ODBC/JDBC integration with DMSII (nice to have).
Key Qualifications:
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Professional Experience: 3–5 years of proven experience as a DMSII DBA or Unisys Mainframe DBA.
  • Communication and Problem-Solving Skills: Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Rotational Support Shifts: Willingness to work in rotational support shifts (if required).
Nice to Have:
  • Modernization Projects: Exposure to modernization projects (migrating from DMSII to RDBMS/cloud).
  • SQL/Relational Database Knowledge: Knowledge of SQL/relational databases for cross-skill flexibility.
  • Automation Scripts: Experience in automation scripts for monitoring or DBA tasks.
