Category Manager - FMCG

Job Summary:

  • This is a key role in managing the Category FMCG team for the assigned Region, overseeing Category FMCG operations across approximately 20-30 stores.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and manage a team of 8-10 members responsible for buying National & Regional FMCG brands, conducting training sessions, and grooming team members.
  2. Coordinate and resolve challenges in buying and moving goods from vendors to distribution centers and then to stores to ensure smooth business operations.
  3. Meet with key vendor partners regularly for negotiations, forecasting, and category development initiatives.
  4. Collaborate with Store Operations, Supply Chain, Purchase, and Central Purchase teams to maximize off-takes and ensure best promotions in stores.
  5. Draft and finalize Monthly and Quarterly plans with FMCG vendors, including demand planning, promotions, and smooth supplies to stores.
  6. Train and develop Purchase officers and Assistant Purchase Managers through on-the-job and classroom training.
  7. Ensure availability at distribution centers and stores daily, maintain competitive pricing, and be willing to travel within the assigned region and PAN India.

Requirements:

  • Graduate/Post Graduate/MBA degree with a minimum 10 years of experience in FMCG Sales.
  • Prior experience in General Trade is preferred, along with experience in managing similar roles.
  • Familiarity with local languages/location is required, and willingness to travel is essential.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are necessary.
  • Excellent team management and training skills are required, as this role involves managing a large team and training/grooming team members.
