Electrical Substation Design Engineer Role

This is a challenging position that requires the creation of electrical substation design deliverables. The role involves working on projects of varying sizes, complexities, and voltage classes.

  • As an Electrical Substation Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading or executing assignments related to proposal preparation, scope development, conceptual designs, and execution plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare engineering cost estimates and Man-hour schedules.
  • Develop detailed engineering drawings for EHV projects from 33kV to 765kV.
  • Design protection and control systems, including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementaries, equipment wiring, and relay panel wiring diagrams.
  • Prepare calculations and reports for engineering studies, such as voltage drop, AC/DC load studies, and others as applicable.
  • Coordinate design activities with other departments, including Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, and other relevant teams.
  • Review designs and attend virtual meetings to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Produce detailed electrical substation design packages compliant with required client technical standards or IES/IEEE/NESC.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members.
  • Develop and improve processes, tools, and/or implement new technologies into the design process.
  • Perform quality reviews for other engineers and designers.
  • Assist with the advancement and development of department tools and workflows to increase design efficiency and project execution.
  • Participate in training/meetings to address organizational initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor s or Master s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum three years of experience and maximum ten years in substation design.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong knowledge of NESC, IEEE standards, and IEC61850-based substation automation systems.
  • Considered knowledge of Relay Testing and Control/Protection scheme testing.
