Job Title: Data Governance Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Specialist to join our team and support our global operations.

About the Role:

  • This is a strategic role that involves providing legal guidance on data protection issues, including US federal and state laws, international laws, and compliance obligations.
  • The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders to provide subject matter expertise, advice, and trainings related to data protection legal and compliance obligations.
  • Responsibilities include monitoring compliance with data protection and privacy policies, processes, and procedures.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to build trust with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Additionally, they will be able to apply risk-balanced, practical legal guidance to complex data protection and privacy questions.

Key Requirements:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of global data protection and privacy laws, with emphasis on US state and federal student data privacy laws and best practices.
  • Expertise in advising on complex data protection and privacy matters, particularly related to FERPA, COPPA, GDPR, etc.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with lawyers and non-lawyers, establishing effective solutions efficiently and in an amenable manner.
  • Excellent problem-solving and solution-finding skills, as well as agility and flexibility in an evolving environment.
  • Maintains confidentiality to the utmost degree.
  • Takes independent action and calculated risks while asking for help as needed.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities while contributing to a positive working environment.
