Special Educator Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Special Educator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs and a commitment to inclusive education.

  • About the Role:
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and supporting students with learning differences, disabilities, or special needs.
  • They will design and deliver tailored learning interventions, both one-on-one and in small groups.
  • Collaboration with subject teachers is essential to adapt curriculum content, teaching methods, and classroom strategies to support inclusive education.
  • A safe, supportive, and positive learning environment that encourages student independence and confidence is paramount.
  • Assessment & Reporting:
  • Developing and implementing Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) with clear goals and strategies is crucial.
  • Tracking student progress through formal and informal assessments is also vital.
  • Providing timely and constructive feedback to students and parents is essential.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of interventions, assessments, and student progress is required.
  • Curriculum Development:
  • Supporting curriculum adaptation to address the needs of learners with diverse abilities is key.
  • Integrating assistive technologies and differentiated instructional strategies where appropriate is also important.
  • Contributing to school-wide initiatives that promote inclusivity and accessibility in learning is desirable.
  • Pastoral & Administrative Duties:
  • Fostering positive relationships with students to support their emotional and social well-being is essential.
  • Working closely with parents to provide guidance, progress updates, and resources is also vital.
  • Supporting school events, awareness programs, and activities related to inclusivity is required.
  • Completing all administrative responsibilities, including reports and compliance documentation, is necessary.
  • Professional Development:
  • Staying updated with the latest developments, best practices, and tools in special education is essential.
  • Participating actively in school-led training, workshops, and external professional development opportunities is also vital.
  • Providing training or guidance to colleagues to strengthen inclusive teaching practices across the school is desirable.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or an equivalent qualification is required. RCI registration preferred. B.Ed in Special Education is desirable.

Experience: A minimum of 2–3 years of experience as a Special Educator in a school setting is required. International or progressive school experience is preferred. Demonstrated ability to design and implement IEPs effectively is essential. Experience working collaboratively with faculty, students, and parents is also vital.

Skills & Attributes: Empathy, patience, and adaptability in working with students of varied needs is essential. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are also vital. Proficiency in using assistive technologies and inclusive teaching strategies is required. Commitment to fostering an inclusive school culture is essential. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse faculty team is desirable.
