Primary Years Programme English Teacher

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Primary Years Programme (PYP) English Teacher to join our faculty.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering engaging, inquiry-driven English language instruction to students in the PYP framework. They will be responsible for planning and facilitating developmentally appropriate English lessons that align with the PYP language scope and sequence.

  • Teaching & Learning:
  • Plan and facilitate English lessons that emphasize reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing skills.
  • Integrate language instruction into transdisciplinary units of inquiry, promoting authentic, real-world learning experiences.
  • Use various instructional strategies and assessment techniques to differentiate learning and support diverse student needs.
  • Encourage a love for reading, storytelling, and effective communication in a student-centered classroom environment.
  • Assessment & Reporting:
  • Design ongoing formative and summative assessments that align with PYP learning outcomes and language continuums.
  • Use assessment data to provide personalized feedback and inform instructional decisions.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to parent-teacher conferences and report writing.
  • Curriculum Development:
  • Collaborate with grade-level and subject teachers to develop, review, and refine units of inquiry with strong language integration.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the PYP English curriculum by incorporating student interests, global contexts, and current best practices.
  • Ensure alignment with IB philosophy, learner profile attributes, and approaches to learning.
  • Pastoral & Administrative Duties:
  • Support the holistic development of each learner by fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Participate in school-wide events, student showcases, assemblies, and extracurricular programmes.
  • Manage administrative tasks including planning documentation, resource management, and parent communication.
  • Professional Development:
  • Engage in school-based and external IB professional development opportunities.
  • Stay current with PYP framework updates and contemporary pedagogical trends in early and primary years English education.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, Education, or a related field is required.
  • A recognized teaching qualification and IB PYP Category 1 and/or 2 training are also essential.
  • 5–8 years of full-time teaching experience within an IB PYP curriculum context are mandatory.
  • Proven success in integrating language learning into transdisciplinary units of inquiry is highly valued.
  • Strong collaborative mindset, excellent communication and planning skills, and passion for inquiry-based, student-led learning are also key qualities.
