Job Title:

Genetic Counselor is a vital role in providing expert guidance to individuals and families affected by genetic disorders. As a Genetic Counselor, you will play a key part in empowering them to make informed decisions about their health.

About the Role:

  • Provide pre-test and post-test genetic counseling via audio or video mode.
  • Offer in-person counseling at hospitals or clinics as required.
  • Collaborate with clinical geneticists and treating clinicians where necessary.
  • Analyze patient histories, draw 3-generation pedigrees, and maintain GC records.
  • Educate individuals and at-risk family members about genetics, genetic disorders, and their consequences.
  • Discuss the options of genetic testing and possible outcomes.
  • Offer psychosocial support throughout the genetic testing process.
  • Explain test results to individuals, discussing the impact on themselves and other family members.
  • Help them make decisions for further testing based on test results.
  • Provide a written summary of the counseling sessions.
  • Participate in projects involving the GC team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Clinical Reporting Team and Technical Support Teams.
  • Understand TRFs and enter clinical details according to HPO terminology in the Phenome database.
  • Ensure timely entry of Phenome data.
  • Liaise with technical support teams to clear customer and other technical queries when needed.
  • Talk to referring clinicians/clients to assist in obtaining clinical details for genetic data analysis, inform results, help interpret results, and suggest further testing.
  • Complete the cycle of pre-test counseling, tracing test results, post-test counseling, and liaise with clinicians at LVPI, Bhubaneshwar or with Clinical Geneticists at MedGenome as required.
  • Provide a written summary of counseling sessions provided.
  • Interact with clinicians and offer scientific support.

  • Masters in Human Genetics/Life Science or relevant studies.
