Job Description:

• As a Telecoms Engineering Specialist, you will be responsible for leading the OCT discipline input and expertise for operations critical telecoms systems through design and delivery of safe, cost-effective projects.
• You will project interface with subject matter experts off project in OCT and other related subject areas.
• Lead, oversee, and performance manage the Project OCT Engineering Team and Engineering Contractor(s) to deliver OCT engineering scopes, including:
• Providing technical oversight, review, guidance, and approval of OCT design engineering contractor deliverables.
• Providing requirements for OCT equipment specification in requisitions/datasheets and selection as well as engineering package technical content.
• Reviewing technical bid analysis for OCT packages.
• Making technical decisions and insights on requests for exceptions/deviations to specifications or standards.
• Ensuring digital security requirements are embedded and delivered for OCT networks and sub-systems.
• Providing technical support to Engineering Contractor or Telecoms System Integrator to ensure cost-effective and fit-for-purpose systems are specified, designed, and implemented.
• Determining risks to project delivery and ensuring adequate risk mitigation plans are in place.
• Working with engineering contractor(s) to verify they are performing required activities in line with project schedules, and assisting in contract performance management.
• Ensuring that Engineering Contractor(s) apply industry standards and best practices in engineering designs.
• Verifying and overseeing quality and consistency in telecoms equipment delivery on projects.
• Deciding on Vendor Inspection and Test Plans, documents, and drawings. Supporting team preparation of factory acceptance test (FAT) and site acceptance test (SAT) plans.
• Recording and sharing relevant learnings.
• Collaborating closely with Digital to define and manage interfaces between Digital and Engineering, including any scope delivered by Engineering on behalf of Digital.
• Determining operational licence and certificate requirements for bp owned and operated communication solutions.
• Coaching and supporting performance of OCT engineers aiding their technical and professional development.
• Collaborating with other subject areas, construction, commissioning, and operations teams for OCT design.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Must have educational qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, or Computer Engineering.
• Preferred education/certifications:
  • Chartered Engineer or Registered Professional Engineer.
• Minimum years of relevant experience:
  • Min of 15 years in oil and gas/petrochemical/refining/chemical or equivalent, with minimum five (5) years experience of Leading Telecoms Engineering work in Major Capital projects.
• Total years of experience:
  • 15+ Years.

• Leading engineering in different contracting models (lump sum; lump sum conversion).
• Self-motivated with a willingness to learn from others and work with minimum direction.
• Site construction & commissioning experience.
• Knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
