Role Summary/Purpose

The AVP Legal will be a member of the legal leadership team, working closely and assisting the Group Chief Legal Officer (GCLO) in all aspects of legal affairs. This role involves significant interaction with senior management, providing advice on a variety of legal issues, managing outside counsels, and leading internal teams.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide legal advice on a broad range of issues, influencing strategic decision-making.
  2. Assist with litigation strategy and manage outside counsel relationships.
  3. Oversee the legal aspects of company business.
  4. Provide legal support in business acquisition and throughout the project life cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Corporate Deals: Lead equity deals and ensure closure of deals and any other outstanding issues with the other party.
  2. Contracts: Lead the contracts function from the Legal team, which involves drafting, negotiations, and finalization of the contracts with third-party EPC vendors, suppliers, consultants, etc., and other contracts.
  3. Litigations:
  • Support in decision making with respect to strategic litigations.
  • Lead strategic litigations as per the advice of the GCLO/management.
Business Acquisition:
  • Support the Business Acquisition team in participation in competitive bids, which includes review of bid documents and issuing a detailed risk analysis of the same.
  • Address queries raised with respect to submitted bids, vetting of bid proposal prior to submission, review of communications issued to the bid coordinator, due diligence of the SPV prior to acquisition from the bid coordinator on a successful bid, and acquisition of SPV.
  • Issue in-house legal opinions with respect to interpretation and strategic issues.
Policy Advocacy:
  • General legal advisory on strategy and interpretation of draft/new regulations.
  • Review of proposed standard bidding documents or amendments to existing standard bidding documents.
  • Help and support the policy advocacy team in communicating with the authorities.
  • Review of representation to be made to the authorities, as per advice of the GCLO.
Formulation of processes/SOPs/Strategy documents as per business requirements, with an objective to streamline processes and mitigate the company's risk exposure.Help and support business teams on legal advisory on day-to-day legal issues.Other assignments as per the advice of the GCLO.

Qualifications:

  1. Law graduate from a reputed law school.
  2. Work experience of around 15+ years in multinational companies preferably in power/infrastructure/energy sectors.
  3. A mix of in-house and law firm experience would be preferable.

Desired Characteristics:

  1. Sound commercial understanding of power/energy business; and government tenders/projects.
  2. Team player and ability to successfully engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Good communication skills (written and verbal).
