The Atlas Corp. and Seaspan teams share a culture of excellence, driving performance and innovation to become a leading asset manager. Our company offers long-term leases on modern containerships and PCTCs, along with ship management services, to major shipping lines. Our fleet has evolved to meet customer needs, with vessels ranging from 2,500 TEU to 24,000 TEU.

Position Overview

This role leads the development and execution of navigational and technical learning initiatives, including competence development for the company. The Superintendent, Training-Nautical, will design and implement strategic training programs to enhance the skills of our seafarers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver effective induction programs, including pre-joining training on company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Manage and deliver navigational and ratings training to ensure compliance with legislation and customer requirements.
  • Monitor the company's seafarer-related Competence Management System and assess the Career Development Initiative (CDI) / Command Partnership Scheme.
  • Support the development of navigational and technical competence for all seafarers, working closely with management to identify learning opportunities and develop training content.
  • Conduct navigational simulator courses and assessments to ensure compliance with company and industry guidelines.
  • Oversee curriculum design, learning tools, and needs analysis/gap management to ensure effective training outcomes.
  • Monitor changes in statutory and regulatory training requirements to forecast training needs and ensure appropriate measures are implemented.
  • Research cost-effective training solutions and create training guidelines for modern technologies, navigational, cargo, and planned maintenance software.
  • Provide regular status reports based on statistics, metrics, ROI, and project results.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as required.

Requirements

  • Master Mariner with 2-3 years of command experience.
  • Minimum three years' experience in marine-related training, including training design and development.
  • Train the trainer course or similar.
  • Container shipping experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of good operating practices, MARPOL, SMS, ISPS, PMS.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent presentation skills.

  • Certified lead auditor for ISO standards.
  • Risk management, incident investigation, and root cause analysis course.
