Medical Coding Specialist

As a Medical Coding Specialist, you will be responsible for assigning accurate and sequenced codes to medical procedures and diagnoses. You will need to comply with government and insurance regulations, as well as adhere to HIPAA and Joint Commission standards.

Key responsibilities include reviewing patient charts and documents for verification and accuracy, following up and clarifying any unclear information, collecting information from various sources to prepare monthly reports, implementing strategic procedures and evaluating methods, analyzing medical malpractice by examining procedures, diagnoses, or events leading to negligence, and performing other clerical duties to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a Medical Coder.
  • Medical coding certification (CPC) or successful completion of a certification program.
  • Bachelor's degree in a pre-health career track is preferred.
  • Strong administrative writing, reporting, organizational, and record-keeping skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Professionalism, confidentiality, and strong communication skills.
  • Expert knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to operate various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs.
