About Our Music Program

We are seeking a qualified music teacher to join our team of special educators at Lady Andal House of Children, a leading institution providing education and vocational training for children and adults with special needs.

The school offers a range of programs, including pre-vocational and vocational training, supported by a multidisciplinary team of rehabilitation professionals providing physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy.

As a music teacher, you will play a vital role in designing music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities, including students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.

Your duties will include:

  • Planning and Delivering Lessons: Design music lessons that meet the diverse needs of our students.
  • Using Adaptive Techniques: Utilise assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation.
  • Encouraging Expression and Communication: Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Therapeutic Integration: Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.
  • Assessment and Reporting: Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks; maintain accurate records and contribute to IEPs (Individualised Education Programs).
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment; manage behaviour sensitively in line with our positive behaviour support policies.

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A degree in music or a related field.
  • 3-7 years of experience working with children in a mainstream or special school setting.
  • Teaching qualification or experience in special education (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education.
  • Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing.
  • Mandatory knowledge of Tamil language and light songs/Bhajans in Tamil.
