The Commis III position at Big Daddy Casino is an exciting opportunity for entry-level chefs to start their culinary career in a professional kitchen.
Key Responsibilities- Food Preparation: Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, and slicing as directed by the Chef de Partie, adhering to high standards of quality and presentation.
- Cooking Assistance: Assist with basic cooking tasks, such as sautéing, grilling, boiling, or frying, under supervision, ensuring that all dishes meet the required standards.
- Section Rotation: Work in various kitchen sections, including sauces, vegetables, fish, and butchery, to gain diverse culinary skills and experience.
- Maintaining Kitchen Standards: Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines, ensuring that the kitchen is always clean and organized, maintaining a safe working environment for colleagues.
- Equipment Use: Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, such as knives, ovens, grills, and mixers, following proper usage and maintenance procedures.
- Stock Management: Ensure that all ingredients and supplies are stocked, reporting any shortages or equipment malfunctions to maintain efficient kitchen operations.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the rest of the kitchen team to ensure smooth service, communicating effectively with colleagues and supervisors to achieve common goals.
- Quality Control: Help maintain food quality by adhering to recipe specifications, portion control, and presentation standards, ensuring that all dishes meet the required standards.
Education:
- Craftsmanship certificate or diploma in Culinary Arts, Food Production, or a related field.
- Previous formal training in a culinary school or apprenticeship is a plus.
Skills & Competencies:
- Basic Cooking Skills: Knowledge of cooking techniques and food preparation methods is beneficial.
- Food Safety & Hygiene: Basic understanding of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen cleanliness standards.
- Time Management: Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage time effectively to meet service demands.
- Communication: Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail in food preparation and presentation.
- Adaptability: Willingness to learn new skills and rotate through different sections of the kitchen.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a positive kitchen atmosphere.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and perform manual tasks such as lifting, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to work in a hot, fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to handle kitchen tools (e.g., knives, mixers) safely and efficiently.
