About the Team
The legal team at Paytm facilitates legal risk and compliance centrally, ensuring business activities are conducted in conformity with all applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, and procedures. The team serves as a liaison for local regulators and legal bodies, maintaining relationships with them. Ensuring local regulatory permissions for Paytm remain current and appropriate for business needs is also a key responsibility.
About the Role
The Legal Contracts team at Paytm is seeking a skilled professional to manage legal and contractual matters effectively. The ideal candidate will assist senior legal colleagues in special and upcoming projects under the e-commerce and fintech division of Paytm. Key responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and finalizing documents (NDAs, contracts, lending documentation, distribution contracts, loan agreements, collection service agreements, letters, etc.), ensuring minimal/no risk to the organization. The candidate should have expertise in Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, Digital Lending, Outsourcing Guidelines, KYC, and other guidelines and circulars related to digital lending. They will negotiate with external counterparts (third-party banks and financial institutions) on digital lending agreements, identify legal risks, and research applicable laws. The candidate will also help interpret changes to regulatory guidelines, update contracts accordingly, and advise the business on day-to-day operational queries. Additionally, they will liaise with internal stakeholders (Business, Finance, Compliance, Infosec, DPO) to ensure timely closure of agreements and advise them on contractual mandates. The ideal candidate will have 8-10 years of experience in end-to-end contract management in a fintech, bank, or NBFC. They should possess strong legal acumen, good interpersonal and negotiation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and efficiently. Proficiency in MS Word/MS Office is a must. Experience with a law firm or as an in-house counsel is preferred. A candidate with experience working with a payments/banks/trading company is highly preferred. The ideal candidate should have good drafting skills, attention to detail, and be a self-starter willing to hustle in a start-up environment. A law graduate from a top-tier institute (National Law Schools, DU, ILS, Symbiosis) is preferred.
