Project Control Specialist Role

The Project Control Specialist is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of projects from initiation to completion. This role involves planning, tracking, analyzing, and reporting performance on projects of varying contract type, size, complexity, and level of risk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective planning, scheduling, and controlling strategies to meet project needs and client requirements.
  • Establish baseline schedules and control processes, monitor progress against plans, and identify potential problems promptly.
  • Assist Project Managers and Engineers with estimates and plans for bids/tenders.
  • Produce Earned Value Analysis (EVA) reports and update project stakeholders on progress and earned value.
  • Monitor costs and manpower on a weekly basis, processing cost transfers as required.
  • Provide planning advice and direction to project staff, subconsultants, contractors, and clients.
  • Facilitate effective project planning within the team.
  • Deliver Period Programme Updates and input to project reports.
  • Lead a performance culture that develops individuals' capability through active performance management.

Technical Requirements:

  • Demonstrable capability in Project Controls and proven skills in using Primavera / Microsoft / other planning products.
  • Understanding of Critical Path Analysis, Earned Value Techniques, and Basic project management skills.
  • Advanced expertise in using MS Excel/Word for developing tools and dashboards for internal and external stakeholder communications.
  • Knowledge of commercial awareness and Excellent communication skills.

People Skills:

  • Proven experience in line management, including mentoring and developing team members.
  • Ability to review work completed by planners/controllers and work in a team environment.
  • Experience working with international planning and project controls teams.
  • Team Leadership capability.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and in changing environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a consultancy environment with good customer relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • Hands-on experience with advance excel, VBA, Power Query, and PowerBI tools.
  • Exposure to UK Highways Industry and work experience in Highways projects/site experience.
  • Ability to supervise or guide junior planners/controllers in project delivery.

Key Competencies/Skills:

  • Basic project management skills and hands-on experience in using P6 and MSP.
  • Understanding of CPM, EV Techniques, and Basic project management skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of philosophies, principals, practices & techniques of planning.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Significant relevant experience in project planning and controlling.
  • Advance level expertise in using MS Excel/Word for developing tools and dashboards.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in working with international planning and project controls teams.
  • Exposure to UK Highways Industry and work experience in Highway projects/site experience.
  • Awareness of Quantitative Schedule/Cost Risk Analysis (QSRA/QCRA).

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent project management qualification.
  • Highly desirable to have PMP or equivalent project management certification.
