Job Title: Database Administrator

The role of the DMSII database administrator involves overseeing the installation, configuration and maintenance of DMSII databases. Ensuring efficient data access and management is a priority.

Responsibilities include:

  • • Installation, configuration, and administration of DMSII databases.
    • Monitoring database performance, space utilization, and availability on Unisys mainframes.
    • Managing sets, subsets, and indexes to ensure efficient data access.
    • Handling database backups, journals, and roll-forward recovery procedures.
    • Supporting schema changes and performing database reorganizations as required.
    • Assisting in capacity planning and ensuring data integrity across environments.
    • Working closely with application and system teams to troubleshoot performance or access issues.
    • Participating in disaster recovery testing and ensuring compliance with backup policies.
    • Implementing and maintaining security, audit trails, and user access controls.
    • Documenting DBA processes, configuration, and recovery procedures.

Required Skills:

To be successful in this position you should have:

  • • Strong hands-on experience with Unisys DMSII database administration
    • Knowledge of DMUTILITY, DMSUPPORT, and database reorganization tools
    • Understanding of journaling, quiet point backups, and roll-forward recovery
    • Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting database issues
    • Familiarity with COBOL, ALGOL, or other Unisys mainframe application integration
    • Knowledge of batch jobs, JCL equivalents, and operational support tasks
    • Basic experience in ODBC/JDBC integration with DMSII (nice to have)

You must have:

  • • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
    • 3–5 years of proven experience as a DMSII DBA or Unisys Mainframe DBA
    • Good communication and problem-solving skills

It would be beneficial if you had experience with modernization projects, knowledge of SQL/relational databases, and experience with automation scripts for monitoring or DBA tasks.
