Job Title: Medical Underwriting Manager

About the Role:

We are seeking a seasoned Medical Underwriting Manager to lead our underwriting team in developing and implementing cutting-edge underwriting strategies. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for defining and constructing new age underwriting workflows that are more customer-centric and tech-enabled.

You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to align our underwriting practices with market trends and data analysis. Your clinical expertise will be invaluable in decision-making, ensuring that our policies accurately reflect the needs of our clients.

A successful candidate will have excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to make quick decisions and adapt to changing circumstances. With a strong background in medical underwriting, you will be able to analyze complex data, identify trends, and develop recommendations to inform business decisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Define and construct new age underwriting workflows that are more customer-centric and tech-enabled.
  2. Apply clinical expertise in decision-making, ensuring accurate risk assessment and policy development.
  3. Evaluate prevailing underwriting practices and market trends, analyzing data to inform revisions to UW guidelines.
  4. Align underwriting practices with cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring seamless collaboration.
  5. Develop and maintain SLAs and TATs, ensuring timely delivery of underwriting services.
  6. Own the development and implementation of underwriting systems and rules, integrating them with sourcing interfaces.
  7. Provide key opinion leadership on cross-functional alignment and projects, gathering and preparing preliminary clinical and medical analysis.
  8. Prepare reports and assist in the development of new or revised policies and guidelines, based on utilization and clinical trends.
  9. Support rate development through timely and accurate clinical and medical analysis, identifying future risks and informing underwriting and risk management decisions.
  10. Assist in Actuarial research and studies, product development initiatives, and presentations.
Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree (MBBS preferred) in a relevant field.
  • 10-15 years of experience in medical underwriting, preferably in health insurance.
  • Strong clinical expertise and analytical skills, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make quick decisions, adapt to change, and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Proven track record of success in leading teams, managing conflicts, and driving results.
