Job Title:

CBM Well Engineering Lead

Key Responsibilities:
  • Well Design and Planning:
    • Develop well plans for CBM wells, including location selection support.
    • Prepare detailed designs for casing, cementing, well trajectory, and mud programs aligned with reservoir and geo-mechanical models.
    • Lead the creation of Basis of Design (BoD), risk registers, and contingency plans.
    • Design efficient and cost-effective completions for CBM production.
  • Engineering Support:
    • Generate drilling and completion Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) documents and monitor actual versus budget performance.
    • Collaborate with procurement and service vendors to select equipment and materials.
    • Assist in developing technical specifications for Drilling & Well Completion equipment.
    • Evaluate and apply new CBM-relevant technologies.
    • Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with safety, contractual, procedural, and regulatory requirements.
  • Operational Guidance:
    • Provide real-time technical support during drilling, casing, cementing, and completions activities.
    • Conduct post-well reviews and implement lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with subsurface teams for well targeting and zonal optimization.
    • Coordinate with HSE, land access, and surface facility teams to align well delivery schedules.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure well designs and activities comply with relevant regulations and standards.
    • Prepare and submit necessary documentation for permits and approvals.
  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Lead a team of well engineers and mentor junior staff members.
    • Manage interfaces with consultants, contractors, and service providers for well engineering deliverables.
Requirements:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience:
    • Over 10 years of upstream oil & gas experience, with at least 3 years specifically in CBM operations.
    • Proven experience in well design and engineering for low-pressure, unconventional gas wells.
    • Hands-on exposure to CBM-specific challenges such as coal stability, dewatering strategies, and completions.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in well design software (Landmark, WellPlan, Compass, StressCheck, etc.).
    • Strong knowledge of CBM reservoir behavior and gas production mechanisms.
    • Strong project management and communication skills.
