About the Role

The mica industry in India is a substantial contributor to the global market, with 34 types of minerals used in various applications.

However, the extraction of mica in states like Jharkhand and Bihar has raised concerns due to issues such as child labor and poor working conditions. The Responsible Mica Initiative (RMI) aims to establish a fair, responsible, and sustainable mica supply chain in India and Madagascar.

RMI employs a multi-stakeholder approach to engage companies, civil society organizations, industry associations, and governments to develop and implement three integrated program pillars: establishing responsible workplace standards, developing a legal framework for the mica sector, and empowering workers and local communities.

The Global Workplace Standard (GWS) for mica processors has been developed, and RMI is working on establishing a standard for small to medium semi-mechanized mines.

This position will support the growth of RMI's activities in India and strengthen its support to upstream supply chain actors in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Conducting gap assessments of mica processors and mines versus RMI's GWS and forthcoming mining standard
  • Providing support to processors and mine owners in implementing corrective action plans and monitoring progress
  • Coordinating collective third-party audit protocols for RMI members
  • Developing training content and conducting training sessions on responsible workplace standards
  • Performing quality checks on audit reports and analyzing data

In addition to these responsibilities, the successful candidate will build and maintain a network with local district governmental officers and authorities in Rajasthan, updating them on RMI's progress and planned activities.
