Objective of the Position
· Senior research Engineer (SRE) to contribute actively towards development of products and technologies in abrasives domain, for surface finishing applications. The aim is to enhance the company‘s scientific knowledge base and build competencies which will help us in creating strong product differentiators / new segments for Abrasives business in the marketplace.
Key Responsibilities
· SRE will be responsible for the development of abrasives products (grinding media), for various segments, including steel, foundry, automotive, fabrication, industrial retail, etc.
· Anchor key technology platforms and own development of technology roadmap towards robust and sustained product development over the mid to long term
· Independently drive projects and programs in their perimeter, with minimal guidance from supervisor.
· Collaborate with technical teams across different sites in India and with global teams to reduce time to market and enhance knowledge creation
· Bring a product from idea/concept through benchmarking, design, prototyping, development, testing, design verification, validation and manufacturing.
· Collaborate with Product Managers to define product needs for the short to mid-term, with a deep understanding of customer and market needs.
· Actively drive IP strategy in his/her perimeter, including patent filing, white space analysis, support to offensive and defensive actions.
Skill & Knowledge (Mandatory)
· Proven industrial R&D experience with product and technology development resulting in business impact
· Thorough understanding of structure-process-property relationships in at least one domain of materials science (polymers/ceramics/metals)
· Ability to work with adjacent materials domains and quickly learn new technology platforms
· Experience in prototyping, and product development with combination of various materials/ processes/technologies.
Skill & Knowledge (Desired)
· Hands of experience in development and processing of engineered composite materials
· Experience with leading people with advanced degrees
