
Corporate Head of Safety

We are seeking a Corporate Head of Safety to lead and implement our organization's safety vision. This senior role is responsible for establishing a comprehensive safety culture that goes beyond mere compliance, focusing on both physical and psychological well-being. The ideal candidate will oversee all safety functions across our Mumbai and Bengaluru operations, ensuring consistency, proactive risk management, and alignment with our core values.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive safety strategy that covers both physical and psychological safety. Act as a key advisor to senior leadership on all safety-related matters and champion a safety-first mindset across the organization.
- Physical Safety & Compliance: Ensure strict compliance with all applicable local, state, and national health and safety laws, including the Factories Act, 1948. Oversee regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments. Lead all emergency preparedness and response planning, such as fire drills and evacuation protocols.
- Psychological Safety & Well-being: Promote a culture where employees feel safe and respected. Implement programs focused on mental health, resilience, and emotional intelligence. Partner with HR and Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) to provide ongoing mental wellness support.
- Data & Risk Management: Monitor key safety performance metrics and incident reports. Use data-driven insights to identify trends, mitigate risks, and continuously improve safety systems.
- Training & Capability Building: Lead the development and delivery of safety training programs for all employees and contractors. Equip managers and supervisors with the necessary tools to foster a safe team environment.
- Culture & Engagement: Build a transparent safety culture by encouraging transparent reporting and shared accountability. Collaborate with DEI and HR teams to ensure safety practices are inclusive and culturally sensitive.
Required Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Safety from a government-recognized institute. Additional certifications in Industrial Psychology, Behavior-Based Safety, or international credentials like NEBOSH IGC/IDip are preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in safety leadership roles within the Indian industry. Must have hands-on experience managing safety operations across multiple cities, particularly Mumbai and Bengaluru.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Indian labor laws, state-specific safety rules for Maharashtra and Karnataka, and EHS compliance.
- Skills: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to lead diverse teams and implement behavioral change across both blue-collar and white-collar workforces.
- Languages: Fluency in English and Hindi is required, with knowledge of Marathi and Kannada being a plus.
