About The Role

The Floating Systems Engineer at BP Energy will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and operational safety of floating assets such as FPSOs and other offshore structures. Based in Pune, India, this position involves providing expert technical support for brownfield projects, life extension initiatives, and operational challenges related to floating systems. The engineer will collaborate closely with regional and global teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure that floating structures meet safety, performance, and compliance standards. This role requires a proactive approach to identify potential risks, recommend fit-for-purpose solutions, and support the continuous improvement of integrity management practices. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in civil and structural engineering, with experience in offshore asset integrity, inspection, and maintenance strategies, contributing significantly to BP Energys commitment to safe and reliable operations.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a BSc or BEng degree in civil/structural engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Professional certification as a Chartered Engineer or equivalent (such as PE) is highly desirable, with evidence of progression towards full chartered status preferred. A postgraduate qualification in relevant disciplines will be considered an advantage. Candidates should have a minimum of 7+ years of proven industry experience in offshore structural integrity, topside design, construction, installation, and maintenance, particularly with semi-submersibles and FPSOs. Familiarity with industry standards such as API RP 2FPS, 2SK, 2TOP, 2A-WSD, AISC WSD, ISO 19900/19904, and class societies like ABS, DNV, or BV is essential. Fluency in English, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and within teams are critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

- Serve as an asset-responsible floating system integrity engineer, ensuring the delivery of integrity management plans aligned with company policies and industry standards.
- Develop and oversee inspection, monitoring, and maintenance strategies for floating systems and structural components to assess and maintain their current condition.
- Evaluate whether assets meet performance standards through regular assessments and reporting significant deterioration or deviations using company tools and risk management systems.
- Support severe weather preparedness activities, including evacuation planning and post-storm inspections, utilizing marine monitoring data to ensure safe operations.
- Define technical scope for new construction, modifications, and life extension projects, focusing on topside structural work and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Provide technical assurance for third-party engineering deliverables, ensuring adherence to industry codes, company practices, and performance standards.
- Maintain relationships with external vendors and contractors, overseeing their work and ensuring it aligns with project and operational requirements.
- Assess impacts of weight and metocean changes on floating assets, recommending appropriate operational adjustments.
- Contribute to the floating systems Community of Practice by sharing best practices, lessons learned, and supporting the development of technical standards.
- Drive continuous risk reduction initiatives related to floating systems, ensuring risks are understood, controlled, and communicated effectively to stakeholders.
- Provide visible safety leadership, promoting a safety-first culture and ensuring compliance with all safety protocols and lifesaving rules.
- Support performance management initiatives by tracking KPIs, analyzing data, and implementing continuous improvement measures.
