About The Role

The Subsea Systems Engineer at BP Energy will play a pivotal role in supporting the company&aposs ambitious offshore projects, specifically within the Production & Operations (P&O) Projects India team. Based in Pune, the engineer will be responsible for providing technical expertise, oversight, and assurance throughout the lifecycle of subsea systems engineering activities. This includes developing and reviewing subsea system specifications, ensuring design integrity, and supporting the implementation and commissioning phases. The role requires close collaboration with internal teams, external contractors, and suppliers to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective subsea solutions that align with project objectives and regulatory standards. The engineer will also contribute to risk assessments, manage deviations, and ensure compliance with BP standards and industry best practices.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor&aposs Degree in Engineering or an equivalent qualification. A Chartered Engineer or Registered Professional Engineer certification is preferred, reflecting advanced expertise and professional recognition. Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in oil and gas subsea engineering, with at least three years dedicated to subsea systems design within major capital projects. Proven experience in subsea systems engineering, familiarity with design codes, methodologies, and regulatory requirements, and a strong understanding of project processes are essential. Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently while engaging with subject matter experts are crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

- Support the delivery of subsea systems projects, ensuring they meet schedule, safety, and quality standards while delivering reliable and cost-effective solutions.
- Lead specific engineering activities and be the owner of key subsea system engineering deliverables throughout the project lifecycle, including handover to operations.
- Coordinate and oversee the work of third-party contractors, hardware suppliers, and internal teams to ensure integrated and compliant designs.
- Ensure all engineering activities adhere to project specifications, BP standards, and regulatory codes, evaluating requests for deviations or exemptions.
- Review and approve contractor deliverables, ensuring quality and compliance with the Basis of Design.
- Provide technical input during risk assessments, Management of Change processes, and project reviews.
- Work closely with senior engineers to set clear performance expectations and oversee contractor performance.
- Support procurement, fabrication, installation, and pre-commissioning activities to maintain technical integrity through to start-up and handover.
- Consult with BP discipline leads, technical authorities, and subject matter experts on engineering integrity issues.
- Participate actively in the Discipline Community of Practice, sharing knowledge and improving engineering practices.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulations applicable to subsea systems design.
- Engage in self-development and leverage BP tools and processes for continuous improvement.
- Promote a safety-first culture, caring for others and oneself throughout project execution.
