The FSI Engineer is responsible for the design and upkeep of interfaces between Cerner Millennium and external systems in a hospitals IT ecosystem. This professional will build and maintain HL7/FHIR interfaces, ensuring seamless data exchange between Cerner and lab systems, radiology/PACS, third-party applications, national health information exchanges, and medical devices. The role emphasizes integration and interoperability, requiring close collaboration with technical teams and client IT staff to ensure real-time, accurate data flow across all systems. The FSI Engineer will leverage Cerners Open Engine or interface tools, adhering to industry standards (HL7 v2.x, FHIR, DICOM, etc.) to support integration needs.

Responsibilities and Deliverables:

• Design, build, and configure Cerner interfaces for various clinical and administrative systems (laboratory analyzers, radiology PACS/RIS, pharmacy systems, billing systems, national eHealth exchanges, etc.), using Cerners interface engine and standards (HL7, FHIR APIs).
• Maintain and monitor interface performance: set up interface message queues, monitor HL7 message traffic, and troubleshoot any interface engine issues to minimize data transmission downtime.
• Collaborate with client IT and vendor teams to map data fields and workflows between Cerner Millennium and external systems, ensuring data integrity and mutual understanding of integration requirements.
• Perform interface testing and validation (unit testing for each interface, end-to-end integration testing) to confirm that patient data (ADT, orders, results, billing info) flows correctly and triggers expected actions across systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve interface errors or data discrepancies promptly, including on-call support for critical interface issues that may impact clinical operations (e.g., lab results not posting to Cerner).
• Develop interface documentation and diagrams mapping source and destination systems, data fields, and transformation logic, to facilitate knowledge transfer and future interface maintenance.
• Work within an offshore model aligning to UAE business hours, providing remote support and coordinating virtually with on-site teams. Be prepared for occasional on-site travel to client hospitals in the Middle East for go-live support or complex integration deployments (travel funded separately).

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience with Cerner Millennium integration (FSI), including building HL7 interfaces (ADT, ORM/ORU, SIU, etc.) and familiarity with Cerner's Open Engine or interface toolkit.
• Strong knowledge of HL7 standards and healthcare interoperability protocols; familiarity with FHIR and Cerner Millennium's proprietary APIs for data exchange is a plus.
• Hands-on experience in interface mapping, message transformation, and use of interface engines (Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, OPENEngine, or similar).
• Solid understanding of various clinical systems (Lab, Radiology, Pharmacy, etc.) and the data each shares, to effectively integrate those with the Cerner EMR.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills to debug complex interface issues (ability to parse HL7 messages, identify format/sequence errors, etc.).
• Excellent communication skills to work with multi-disciplinary teams – capable of explaining technical integration issues to client IT staff and coordinating fixes.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required
• Ability to work during Gulf Standard Time to synchronize with client teams. Proven track record supporting or implementing Cerner at Middle East.
• Willingness to travel on-site when needed for critical project phases (e.g., go-live, intensive integration testing), while primarily delivering services remotely. Travel expenses will be covered by the company.
• Comfortable in an offshore delivery environment: self-motivated and disciplined to deliver code remotely, with the flexibility to travel to client site in the Middle East on occasion if critical for requirements gathering or deployment support.
