At Basil, we are making an automated robotic food and beverage kiosk to be able to serve fresh, healthy, affordable food. This is a challenging problem requiring intense effort because we need to build a new product from scratch very fast while maintaining food safety, accuracy and quality.
Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Manufacturing Engineer to join our fast-paced team. The ideal candidate will contribute significantly during the design and production phases, ensure seamless vendor coordination, and guarantee the quality of components. This role is ideal for someone with a background in mechanical or production engineering, who is highly organized and thrives in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:Provide valuable inputs during the design phase to facilitate efficient manufacturing of Sheet Metal components.Work closely with the development team and vendors to plan manufacturing timelines based on external and internal dependencies.Setup and manage vendors for various manufacturing processes and raw material procurement.Expand the vendor network for the company to improve reliability and reduce manufacturing costs.Evaluate and troubleshoot manufacturing processes and machinery.Execute DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) on designed components and assemblies, suggesting changes for cost reduction and improved functionality.Ensure timely delivery of components to the assembly team.Handle interactions and negotiations with vendors to ensure cost-effective procurement and production.Establish processes to support rapid scaling from prototype to batch production, mitigating any delays.Maintain a high level of team coordination and identify areas for improvement in processes to enhance manufacturing standards and product quality.Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.Generate ideas for fixtures, assembly jigs, and process improvements.Ensure the quality of manufactured components meets the required standards.This position requires traveling more than 60% of the time within Delhi NCR.
Must-Have Skills:Experience in Sheet Metal Components is a plus.Sound knowledge of Structural Mechanics, Weldments, Plastics, and Sheet Metal operations.Good understanding of manufacturing processes including turning, milling, laser cutting, bending, rolling, molding, surface finishing, and welding processes.Good knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and welding symbols.Good knowledge of metrology, such as using vernier calipers, angle gauges, Screw gauges etcAbility to create 3D models using software like SolidWorks/Catia (Sheet Metal design, part design, assembly, drafting).Competent in using SolidWorks and interpreting engineering drawings effectively.Problem-solving mindset with strong troubleshooting skills.Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.Strong organizational and management skills.Proficient in office tools like Microsoft Office and Excel.Take end to end ownership of manufacturing of the product.
Good-to-Have Skills:Experience of working with cross-functional teams.Experience in scaling manufacturing from single-piece to batch production.Operating 3D printers.Working exposure to electronics and electrical domains.Experience in vendor evaluation.A big plus if you have worked in BAJA,SUPRA,ROBOCON,Robotics Clubs etc
