Title: Manager - Billing

Location: Mumbai

Role Overview:

We are looking for a seasoned professional to lead the billing operations for our Mumbai office. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing a team of 7–8 billing executives and coordinating effectively with lawyers and partners to ensure timely and accurate billing, compliance with client requirements, and smooth internal processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Management:
  • Supervise and mentor a team of billing executives; ensure even allocation of workload and monitor performance.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, reviews, and provide feedback and support as needed.
  • Billing Operations:
  • Oversee end-to-end billing cycle, including draft preparation, partner/lawyer coordination, finalization, and dispatch.
  • Ensure billing is in line with client billing guidelines, agreed rates, and engagement terms.
  • Monitor timelines and ensure month-end closure is done as per internal deadlines.
  • Stakeholder Coordination:
  • Act as the primary billing point of contact for lawyers and partners based in the Mumbai office.
  • Regularly liaise with fee-earners to gather billing inputs, resolve discrepancies, and proactively follow up on pending items.
  • Collaborate with finance and collections teams to support reconciliation and follow-ups.
  • Quality Control & Compliance:
  • Review drafts to ensure accuracy in hours, rates, taxes, and client-specific instructions.
  • Ensure documentation, audit trails, and client master data are properly maintained.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Identify gaps or delays in the billing cycle and work towards process optimization.
  • Support digitization/automation initiatives and adoption of billing tools or ERP systems.

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Graduate/Postgraduate in Commerce, Finance, or related field.
  • 6–10 years of billing experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services firm.
  • Prior team handling experience is essential.
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and follow-up skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP/Billing tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
