Manufacturing Engineer

DESCRIPTION

Key Responsibilities:

Develop manufacturing processes for camshaft machining operations.

Participate in equipment finalization, DAP, specification finalization, trials, and final commissioning for machines such as: Cam milling, Laser marking, Deburring, Induction hardening, Straightening, Journal and cam grinding, BHN testing, Crack testing, Superfinishing, Washing and final inspection

Programming on Cam Milling, Induction Hardening, Journal and Cam lobe grinding, superfinishing machine to develop new parts.

Prepare RFQs, technical document sign-offs, PR/POs, and manage ordering, DAP, manufacturing, and pre-acceptance trials for new machines and refurbished equipment.

Improve plant layout and material flow to enhance operational efficiency.

Support CAPEX planning and cash flow management in a timely manner.

Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions.

Conduct team meetings and maintain effective communication with site operations, Manufacturing Engineering (ME), Quality, and supplier teams.

Maintain project tracking and documentation to ensure completion of all project milestones.

Support new production lines with IIoT, Cummins Manufacturing System (CMS), and Industry integration.

Assist in developing and implementing manufacturing standards and work methods using continuous improvement tools.

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on assigned projects.

Define manufacturing processes to meet product specifications and production goals.

Work with engineering teams to identify and resolve product or performance issues.

Plan and design methods to improve production efficiency.

Enhance equipment availability and capability through continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration.

Review shop Engineering Requests (ERs) and coordinate with the NPRR team for timely implementation.

Lead ergonomic initiatives on the shop floor, implement ERGO projects, and monitor RPS reduction.

Release and monitor annual plans for process capability reviews of major and critical characteristics.

Coordinate with the engineering team on VPCR trials and implementation.

Apply manufacturing principles to improve equipment and process performance.

Utilize continuous improvement tools and adhere to Cummins standards.

Lead the development and standardization of manufacturing methods and practices.

Manufacturing Knowledge - Demonstrates the knowledge of manufacturing by correctly implementing changes in current processes, equipment, and applications to meet the function's needs and contribute towards continuous improvement.

Process Documentation - Produces written manufacturing procedures in proper sequence which are followed correctly by all approved stakeholders to establish continuity in processes and standardization.

Tool and Fixture Design - Selects work-piece-holding devices capable of effectively holding parts and products during a manufacturing process to secure their position to meet functional requirements.

Continuous Process Improvement - Recognizes areas in which a process can be improved by properly implementing process improvement and waste reduction methodologies to reduce process cost and improve quality in current manufacturing processes.

Ergonomics Process and Workplace Design - Designs, creates or adapts processes and workstations by implementing ergonomic controls through the application of the Cummins ergonomic design guidelines to reduce risk and deliver ergonomically designed work.

Problem Solving - Solves problems and may mentor others on effective problem solving by using a systematic analysis process by leveraging industry standard methodologies to create problem traceability and protect the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; identifies the systemic root causes and ensures actions to prevent problem reoccurrence are implemented.

Workstation Design - Designs operator work stations that are safe, healthy, and ergonomic while accounting for cost, quality, and delivery to contribute to an efficient work environment.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

Bachelors degree in manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related STEM field.

Experience:

Experience in manufacturing/engineering functions minimum 13 years preferred.

Exposure to ERP systems (, VPCR, BOM, DQR, ER), fixture design, and process validation.

Familiarity with digital manufacturing tools and lean practices.

Hands-on involvement in shop floor improvement and capital equipment development is an added advantage.
